GMC Topkick Dual-Suspension Mountain Bike Reviews

Mens GMC Topkick 26″ Dual suspension Bike with Shimano 21 speed index gearing~ For any service questions contact Kent at 1-800-451-KENT (5368) EST., for replacement parts, repair kits, tools and warranty information (or) www.services@kentbicycles.com
Boasting a full-suspension, extra-strong aluminum frame, the GMC Topkick mountain bike is an ideal choice for both trail riding and rough city riding. The frame employs a floating beam suspension design mated to a Zoom suspension fork with elastomer/spring technology. This gives the bike a smooth, steady performance even on rough terrain. The Topkick’s drivetrain, meanwhile, is outfitted with Microshift push shifters that control Shimano’s tried-and-true TZ-30GS derailleur. The drivetrain also offers a strong aluminum wheel set with a V-shape rim profile and high-flange alloy hubs. And to keep you stopping smoothly in any circumstance, the Topkick boasts front and rear Promax disc brakes. Disc brakes are vastly superior to rim brakes, especially under adverse road conditions. True to its GMC roots, the Topkick mountain bike is rugged, good looking, and built for the long haul.

Customer Reviews

By J. Caffarella (Littleton, MA)
My fiance and I are avid road cyclists, but wanted MTBs to ride on the trails. After researching MTB’s, we decided on the GMC Topkick for her because it received decent customer reviews and offered the most in terms of features, such as alloy frame, dual-suspension and dual disc brakes. We found other MTB’s offering similar features, albeit brand name w/ higher end componentry, costing 0+. At 0 w/ free shipping from Amazon.com, the GMC Topkick, manufactured by Kent Bicycles, was too good a deal to pass up. As others reported, the included assembly instructions aren’t helpful as they are generic and not specific to assembly of this bike. Since the bike comes 85% assembled, it wasn’t too difficult to figure out where things go, and if you’re unsure of something, there are plenty of videos available on [...] for reference. After I removed all of the packing material and tape, assembly took about 2.5 hours, which included removal of the knobby tires and replacing them w/ more street worthy tires. It’s built like a tank, and at 38 lbs, it’s heavy, but at this price point, that was expected. To shave weight, we’ll lose the kickstand, reflectors and change the seat post and saddle for alloy and a racing saddle. The front forks can’t be locked down and there’s more plastic on the bike than I’d like to see. I rate the quality of the componentry on this bike as marginal, and not great, so I don’t expect my fiance will get more than a few years out of this bike without having to replace something major, up to and including the bike itself. All and all, for the dollars spent, I think it’s a good MTB for recreational road and light trail use.

After searching many places for a bike to replace the one stolen from my 15 year old daughter, we figured this GMC Topkick would be good enough. We were delighted to find that this one is better than the Specialized that was stolen. Even my husband was pleased as he put it together for her. He had never before seen a bicycle with disc brakes and called some of his friends to tell them about it. He had been concerned because we ordered it online without his checking out the physical bike. However, we are all happy with the Topkick and my daughter is happiest of all since she can now win some of the races with her neighborhood friends. This bike is just the ticket for a girl who thought she would have to spend 0-0 to replace her old bike. Thanks Amazon!

    • My friend popped 3 tubes in 1 day, using his Specialized Rockhopper. I was using a wal-mart bike and had no problem. If you mountain bike where we bike, chances are that you will get a flat every time you ride. That’s why you should keep a patch kit, spare tube, and pump with you.

    • i dont get it… if you dont like the bike why post a video of it? just sell it! i was hoping i could find a tip video for fine tuning the bike but nope… just this low res one =[

    • I bought one 1 year ago and have had no major problem with it, except some minor front derailleur adjustment, which is to be expected. I have ridden mine from the Bronx to Manhattan, which is a little over 15 miles one way. And I did it at least 4 times so far.

    • @SoldierCyfix well if i was you i would not get a mongoose b/c i bought one at walmart and took it back in a week it popped out of gear every ten feet i went i was looking to buy this bike but this vid convinced not to buy it and hey if u wanna get a good mongoose get a mongoose fireball!

    • yea i read some other reviews, i decided not to get it. (it has as much affiliation with GMC as those $20 fake Ipods have with Apple) yea ill just go with a mongoose or some other brand company

    • hey this bike is not worth the about 250 dollars i spent on it, i bought it from amazon aswell, first thing thats gonna go is the pedals, plastic pedals, i had to change them within the first week. tube puncture problem as well, save your money and buy a decent bike for arround 500, anything less than that would be flimsy at best.

    • i keep getting a flat, i’ve been to the shop 2 times, they changed tubes both times, i get the feeling that the tires arent really re-enforced, they feel cheaply made.

    • where did you get it from?

    • you can do tricks on it i bet, bit if your into that get BMX, the best you can do on these is minor jumps

    • am 6’3 and trying to get this bike, will it do. i dont wana bump my knee, i have had enough of those injuries.

also whats a good cost for this bike i saw it on amazon for 250$

    • Plastic pedals?

    • it will keep me occupied and casually riding while i save up for a real bike. from far if you squint it looks like a real Mtn bike, but looking at it close up you realise things like stickers saying”professional grade” and we all know that means its a professional grade sticker.
got it for $100, so i can’t complain..

    • ya parts are a bitch to find. i busted my rear axle the other day and i cant find a new one that fits

    • fyi……your front fork is on backwards in video:D……..nice looking bike…but i’ve had alot trouble since i bought…..had 2 them actuallys…….1st one fell apart in the rear less than 3 months after i bought……over 1600km’s on mine…..tubes….bearing…pedals….tires…….parts aren’t that great….all needed replacement……i actually like the bike…..the parts used on it are crap…..

    • good bike, but have had 2 flats in the past 3 months, and the bike shop i go to doesn’t have the tube for it, so they had to improvise, disc breaks are awesome, stops on the dot. not recommended for heavy jumps, good mountain crawler over all 3 outta 5

    • was it a good purchase??

    • I got the bike a while back like 1 year ago and when parts go have fun finding them. Or if you go to a professional bike shop they will laugh. lol
